Learning Outcomes

  1. Literary Reading  - Students will read and become familiar with representative literary texts from across the basic genres of poetry, fiction, drama, and nonfiction. (See also the specific learning outcomes for each of these genres: poetry | fiction | drama | nonfiction)
  2. Literary-Critical Lexicon (Terminology) - Students will demonstrate mastery of a basic literary-critical lexicon, including the rudiments of formal analysis, literary theory, and literary history.
  3. Literary Analysis and Argumentation - Students will produce readings of literature that employ this lexicon and demonstrate varied critical approaches, informally and in formal academic writing.
  4. Digital Literacy - Students will learn, apply, and critically evaluate new communications and media tools
  5. Social Application - Students will apply their learning about literary study to authentic needs and audiences, and will practice collaborative skills

Project Objectives
  1. Make a Contribution Our goal is to make a substantive contribution to the advancement of 21st century literary skills. This requires researching and interacting with stakeholders.
  2. Collaborate We will work as a team and in consultation with stakeholders in order to find and approach key topics and to use available media appropriately.
  3. Publish and Market We will publish our eBook on the Amazon platform and we will market and distribute this meaningfully to interested parties.
  4. Document Process We will document our experience in our course blog for ourselves and others to learn from and build upon.
  5. Student Achievement The project will help build the academic and profession identities of the students and the English program at BYU.
